Larne 44 v 14 BHSFP
|
| Tries : Penalty
Try, D Wilson |
| Convs: P Taylor (2) |
High School travelled to Larne for this League encounter in
the knowledge that they had suffered a comprehensive defeat against the
seasiders at the start of the season. Larne are currently sitting
undefeated on top of the League table. Conditions on the day were dry
overhead although heavy underfoot .
With the game only seven minutes old Larne got their first points from a
penalty . The play at this stage was fairly even with High School working
well in the backs using a good stream of possession. The Larne pack was
being well contained in these early stages although it was clear they had
the edge in the loose play situation.
It wasn?t until 14 minutes of the half had elapsed that the first try was
scored through an award of a Penalty Try by the referee. The High School
backline had moved the ball wide and with only one pass to go to secure
the try Larne deliberately knocked on. In the circumstances the referee
awarded the score .
This was to be the only points for High School in the first half with
Larne
scoring four tries on 18, 28 , 36 and 42 minutes ( two converted ) . The
tries with one exception all came from loose play situations which in turn
generally came about from poor first up tackling by High School. The High
School line out was working well on the day but the scrum was always under
pressure and as the game progressed the pressure became more evident. In
the loose the front row trio of Scott, Hanvey and Taylor were working well
but the general lack of possession meant the backs were always on the back
foot and unable to attack as they can.
HALF TIME LARNE 27 - 7 BHS
The first period of the second half was fairly even with High School
playing some better and more aggressive rugby but they were unable to
break through the Larne defence.
Larne scored a further converted try after 15 minutes of the half and
although by this stage they were dominant in most areas of play High
School did not give up and fought hard to secure some points. They were
not helped by the harsh decision after 25 minutes of the half to yellow
card Neil Hastings for holding on the ground.
With one player in the sin bin and one receiving treatment on the
touchline High School conceded two further tries on 30 and 35 minutes
(both unconverted) .
For the final 8 minutes of the game High School showed great tenacity and
were able to finish the game the stronger of the two teams scoring a try
in the process . The score came from a penalty quickly taken and moved to
Chris Kitchen who stalled the Larne defence , passed to Derek Wilson who
in turn jinked through for the try. The try was converted by Pete Taylor.
FINAL SCORE LARNE 44 - 14 BHSFP
The Officials and Alikadoos of BHSFP would wish to thank Larne Rugby Club
for the warm welcome and tremendous hospitality afforded to them before
and after the game and wish them the compliments of the Season.
